Anna Kendrick, who has made a specialty of playing straight-ahead types (in 'Up In the Air,' the 'Twilight' films and 'Scott Pilgrim vs the World'), is in talks to tackle a more rebellious role in 'Pitch Perfect,' a romantic comedy being prepped by Gold Circle for Universal. In the film, being directed by Jason Moore ('Avenue Q') and based on the nonfiction book by GQ magazine scribe Mickey Rapkin, Kendrick would play an unhappy, goth-like student who finds herself when she joins the school's female a cappella group. 'Bridesmaids's' Rebel Wilson has also been cast in the film, which will begin shooting in New Orleans in the fall. The festival is devoted to showing North American premieres only and has a reputation for "discovering" great films ('Stranger than Paradise,' 'Blue Velvet,' 'The Crying Game') and new directors (Michael Moore, Robert Rodriguez). The festival, which began in 1974, doesn't announce its lineup until the day before screenings begin, which means attendees have to be a dedicated lot to trek to the high country blindfolded. On Thursday, the fest, which runs Sept. 2-5, announced its main schedule. Among the highlights: David Cronenberg's 'A Dangerous Method,' the Cannes hit 'The Artist,' Alexander Payne's 'The Descendants,' Agnieszka Holland's 'In Darkness' and Werner Herzog's 'Into the Abyss: A Tale of Death, A Tale of Life.'
